2023 marks the 20th anniversary of Giants of Africa.

To celebrate, we are bringing together youth from 16 of the countries we’ve visited for the inaugural Giants of Africa Festival in Kigali, Rwanda.

The week-long celebration will use basketball as a tool to educate and empower African youth to dream big.

LOCATION

RWANDA

Known as the land of a thousand hills, Rwanda is one of Africa’s most dynamic and inspiring countries. Beyond the stunning scenery and unique experiences, Rwanda has one of Africa’s fastest growing economies.

BK ARENA

The majority of the Festival’s events and activities will take place at BK Arena. The newly renovated, state-of-the-art arena is among the top 10 sports venues on the continent, and the largest in the East African region with a capacity of 10,000.

Basketball
3 Day On-court Basketball Skills Development Camp

Using Giants of Africa’s proven curriculum, all 250+ youth campers will develop their basketball abilities, while learning key life skills lessons.

GOA and NBA coaches and personnel will lead the camps, alongside local coaches from the participating countries.

Boys & Girls
Basketball Tournament

A two-day tournament where campers compete
for their country will determine the Giants of Africa Festival 2023 champions.

EDUCATION
Dream Big Leadership and Educational Series

Using Giants of Africa’s proven curriculum,  all 250+ youth campers will develop their basketball abilities, and takeaway key life skills lessons.

GOA and NBA coaches and personnel will lead the camps, alongside local coaches from the participating countries.

International
Youth Day Forum

In recognition of the United Nations sanctioned International Youth Day, Giants of Africa will bring together 5,000 local Rwandan youth for an afternoon of engagement, education and empowerment.

Umuganda Day

Inspired by Umuganda, a monthly holiday in Rwanda where all citizens participate in a nationwide clearnup, Giants of Africa Festival will take the 250+ youth campers to a nearby community to participate in a cleanup, and learn more about the importance of climate change and sustainability.

Work Skills Internship Program Developing Future Leaders

Giants of Africa Festival will provide hands-on education and experience to Rwandan youth across various fields including hospitality, basketball operations, events, finance and more.

Volunteer Program

Giants of Africa Festival will be recruiting local youth volunteers to participate in its various events and activities providing them an opportunity to learn, grow and make connections. Stay tuned for more information on how to apply.

Culture

Culture from the 16 participating countries will be showcased throughout the week-long celebration with food, music, art, and performances.

Festival Opening Ceremonies

The Giants of Africa Festival will kick off with a big opening ceremony celebration featuring a parade of athletes, special guest remarks, live performances celebrating African culture, and a musical performance.

Championship Game & All-Star Competition

The week-long basketball camp and tournament will culminate with a Championship Game and All-Star Competition. Look forward to an evening filled with entertainment, half time performances, special guests and surprises.

The Giants of Africa Festival will end with a final celebration concert.
